Signs of Good Things to come… 2007
Last ride of the year started off with so much anticipation and hope for the coming 2007. There were 20 riders to begin with. This being the last ride of year 2006,everyone was in a friendly and social mood. The presence of the new ‘President’ also dictates that common courtesy and sense was the order of the day. Looking forward to new ideas, riding routes and changes seemed to be what everyone was tuning to this fine Sunday morning. New trail recce being the order of the day got everyone pretty pumped up. Off we went after what seemed like a pretty routine briefing. It didn’t take long to notice that the group was scattered all along the trail within minutes. Re-grouping at the junctions took longer than usual. Which gives us more time to socialize I thought. Not a bad thing. The usual chatter and admiration of bike, legs, helmets, water bottles…. Yadda yadda yadda. Well you can figure it out. Bikers are not known to speak about any other things besides those anyways. Its either bike talk or no talk. Unless of course if, any one poor soul decides to show the rest of the group how to slow the bike down using something else besides brakes. Otherwise its pretty routine Sunday trail chit chat.
Till the President decided he wanted to spice things up a little… Which I of course took note of. Curious strategy I thought. What say the common population about this new approach to Sunday trail riding?
v Offering to go check out the unmarked trail by himself. All the while assuming that we would go off and not pay attention to where he might be. When the truth be told, we could actually see him sitting down behind the bush having a Snickers bar.
v Not wiping the lips properly coming back from trail “checking”. Duh?
v Riding ahead to do more trail checking and requesting the main group to chase after him. Upon arrival, instructing the main group up a steep hill while he and his fellow trail checker went off to check a downhill section instead. Peter,Lee Nya and Tom was his fellow checker.Someone please note this.
v Tales of wild boar sighting immediately after the main group wised up on his strategy, hoping that wild boars would help divert the attention away from his downhill section check. All the while insisting he missed seeing that steep hill on his right. Fellow checkers included.
v Always offering to go check the downhill bit or any trail that points down. Refuses to return even when his crony decided to use her elbow and knee to stop the bike on a downhill section. “Radio check.Where are you guys?” “We have to stop, the lady fell.Need to render help” “Noted.I will wait here for you guys to catch up” “ Where exactly will you be?” “Right here,at the bottom of the hill. You wont miss me”
v To shrewdly include a road section 10km away from the car. Claims it helps build stamina for Interstate 2007. “And oh yeah! I forgot to mention the ‘Little’ climb just before the corner right there…” Tarmac climb. “Ummm… is this M & D or am I the only confused one around?!”
